The diagnosis and management of Autism and other developmental disorders is a core mission of Broome Pediatrics. We have several decades of experience with this special population and go out of our way to ensure our families feel supported and respected. Our providers have received advanced training in the developmental evaluation of Autism (ADOS) and are at the forefront of medical management of high-support need ASD presentations.
Autism is a highly variable and complex disorder and thus requires an individualized approach- one based on dignity and respect. We attempt to make ASD follow up visits during low-traffic times in the office, preferably on Thursdays. We take a supportive, “light-touch” approach- never pushing the child beyond their comfort zone, or push them to become overly anxious or over-stimulated.
We advise assist and families on their ASD journey, helping them to navigate the complex landscape of psychologic and therapeutic interventions, as well as work with schools to get the appropriate resources in place.
Medication can be a valuable addition to a comprehensive ASD management plan, and we often offer this to families as one aspect of our overall approach. We see medications as one of the tools available to us and will work to understand and meet you at your comfort level with their use.
